The concert orchestra is the senior orchestra at music school, and it exists to give players the chance to make music with others in a large ensemble.
The concert orchestra is somewhat different to traditional orchestras in that it offers members training in many different musical styles and settings, including some performances that require players to learn music by ear and improvise. Music played includes classical, film, popular, Latin American and other world music styles.
In the last couple of years, the orchestra has:
- Given formal concerts at the Albert Hall, Nottingham Castle and the Sandfield Theatre
- Been on tour to France and Germany
- Helped to lead Christmas celebrations in the City
- Taken part in the St George's Day Parade through the streets of Nottingham
- Played with world music groups and rock bands
- Played on the big outdoor stage at the Nottingham 'Light Nights' festival
- Played on a ship sailing down the Rhine and got free entry to all the rides by playing at Europa Park.
- Raised hundreds of pounds by taking part in a 24 hour sponsored play
