The Nottingham Music School Concert Orchestra has just returned from taking part in an extraordinary meeting of orchestras from across Europe in our German twin city: Karlsruhe.
Groups from Nancy (France) and Halle (Former East Germany) joined the Karlsruhe Jugendorchester and our Concert Orchestra for ‘Come Together’, which included joint rehearsals, performances, jam sessions, singing and much more.
The experience was perhaps best summed up by Ian Burton, Music Development Manager and leader for this visit who said: “This has been one of the most uplifting, exhilarating and profoundly moving experiences of my life.” |

| Over two days the Intermediate Orchestra performed in six City Schools: Henry Whipple,
Heathfield,
Fernwood,
Robin Hood,
Snapewood and
Glenbrook. All of the concerts were of a very high standard and really showed off what can be achieved by carrying on learning an instrument after Wider Opportunities. |

Despite terrible weather conditions Colwickstock 2011 went very well, with bands performing to an appreciative audience. There was thunder, rain, lightening and wind but that didn't stop the bands giving great performances, whilst the audience sheltered under a marquee. |
On Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July we held our first Music Camp at Stratford-Upon-Avon youth Hostel, which was a great success. The students who attended did very well and we look forward to welcoming them to Music School, (mainly in our Area Bands) in September. |

Our Area Bands wowed Children Services directors from across England at their conference at the National College on Thursday 16th June 2011. They gave excellent performances of Carmna Burana and Viva la Vida and then surprised the delegates by getting them to join in a performance of the Passenger. Area Band members proved to be fantastic teachers; showing the delegates how to play a variety of instruments so that they could take part in the performance. That was one conference the delegates won't forget in a hurry! The Passenger is part of a transition project Nottingham Music Service has helped design for 'Musical Futures' which aims to help students transition from primary to secondary school continuing to play their instruments.
