Timetable changes for 2010
Please note that we have made changes to the Music School timetable which may affect the groups you can join this year.
There are details of these changes below, please click on the link to see the new Timetable.
World Music
We have changed the way our World Music groups work this year.
There will no longer be seperate African Drumming, Samba and Taiko sessions running every week.
Instead we will now have two 'World Music' sessions, each two hours long. One of these will work at an intermediate level and one at a senior level. Both of these groups will include blocks of work on each of the three drumming styles previously offered.
Students are only able to join one of these groups.
We hope that these changes will enable students to develop a complimentary range of world music skills and progress more quickly.
We are no longer able to offer sessions on Saturday mornings for complete beginners who have no experience of at least one of these styles of world music. However students who have experience of playing world music as part of their class at school are well placed to join the Intermediate group.
Steel Pans
There will still be seperate Steel Pans sessions, however these will be Intermediate and Senior groups and students will not be able to join both of these groups.
Training Orchestra Groups
These will now meet from 9.55am - 12.00pm (with a break in the middle) instead of 9am -11am. In the second half of these rehearsals the groups will come together to form the Training Orchestra.
Intermediate Stage Band
We are no longer able to offer this ensemble, members from last year are welcome to join with the Training Orchestra during the second half of their session. We will endevour to provide parts which are challenging enough for these students, there will also be a creative element to this group's work which will be very similar to what they experienced in the Intermediate Stage Band last year.
Band Factory
Members of Band Factory should note that we cannot offer four hour rehearsals to all bands due to the high demand, most bands will only be able to rehearse for two hours.

Once again the sun shone on Nottingham's St.George's Day celebrations. The Concert Orchestra performed to huge crowds both in the Market Square and as part of the parade from the Castle, showing off the high standard of music making at NMS. |
This year's Castle Concert was one of our best events ever! The varied and challenging repertoire, which included Troika from Lieutenant Kije', Swan Lake & Nessum Dorma was really well received by a full house culminating in a standing ovation after the dramatic climax of the concert in which all of the evening's performers combined to play One Day Like This. |

On Friday 12th February NMS groups performed as part of Light Night celebrations in the Market Square. More of our students than ever before took part, there were so many from the Area Bands we had to split them in to two perfomances. |
Big Band Night 2010 on Wednesday 27th January saw NMS students give brilliant performances once again. The Stage Band, Intermediate Stage Band and Brassery Big Band were all well received by a very appreciative audience and we have been given lots of positive feedback. |

The Christmas in the City 2009 concerts were a huge success with more people playing than ever before, giving some wonderful performances. The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Jeannie Packer said "Now, that's what I call music! A great start to the Christmas season. Well done to everyone." |
The Concert Orchestra set the city alight at the switch-on of the Christmas Lights on the 18th November. The new pieces that have been added to the repertoire this term received a great response from the audience along side classic Christmas songs and carols. |
Bands in the Sand 2009 was fantastic. Eight bands fought it out in the finals, giving great performances which gave the judges a real challenge deciding on the winners. Visit the Bands in The Sand website to see pictures. Trent FM's Mark Del was so impressed he has offered One Piece (winners of the 15 - 19 catagory) the chance to feature in a New Music Future session. The 11 - 15 winners were Algor. There will be another opportunity to hear the Band Factory bands performing at Colwickstock 2010, on the 8th & 9th July. |
